Our wrestlers have been preparing all year for the post season. Tough competition was found in the states of Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania via a number of tough duals and tournaments that Coach Moore strategically scheduled to prepare them for the rigors of post season competition.
The Evergreen District Tournament will be held at Warren County High School in Front Royal on Saturday. By now most should know that the Evergreen District is comprised of five teams: BDHS, Fauquier HS, Liberty HS, Kettle Run HS, and Warren County HS. The district tournament is a bracketed event. Seeding/ranking was established at the District Duals. To figure the seed you have only to look at individual results from District Duals. For instance: At 135 Seth Henson defeated the wrestlers from Kettle Run, Liberty, Warren County, and Fauquier … but in the Fauquier dual he wrestled 140 not 135. Since he did not wrestle Fauquier's 135 and the Fauquier 135 won all his matches Seth will be seeded second.
Coach Moore is attending the district seeding meeting this evening. The seeding process is relatively straight forward given that all the wrestlers in the weight class wrestled each other at district duals. It gets more complex if wrestlers change weight classes after district duals, thus the need for the meeting. In these cases the coaches look for head to head results, and or the outcome of matches against a common opponent in order to establish the seeds for districts. The outcome of the District tournament establishes the seeding for Regionals, and the outcome of Regionals establishes the seeding going into states.
The Evergreen District tournament is the first of two steps to get to wrestle at the State tournament in Salem/Roanoke. So come out and cheer the guys on as they take that first post season step toward Salem.
